These ten scissor-type working platforms are used in a sawmill. They are part of an automated wood-sorting system where wooden planks are sorted according to size and then transported automatically into the drying room. There are 42 bearings installed in each of the ten double-scissor systems, which must be able to cope with dust, sand, wood shavings and resin. Conventional metal bearings would require a high amount of maintenance under these conditions and would have to be cleaned and lubricated permanently For this reason, the design engineers decided in favour of the sturdy and lubricant-free iglidur® G plastic plain bearings from igus®.
