With heavy and light rails, passengers encounter the first igus components as soon as they board. chainflex cables, dryspin lead screw technology and energy chains are used to make boarding systems maintenance-free and, above all, reliable. Defective doors can put passengers in danger in emergency situations and are an obstacle to rapid passenger changes in everyday life.

Only limited installation space is available in the doors, which is why cables have to be bent a lot and can wear out quickly. To prevent this, chainflex cables with a TPE sheath and a special core alloy are used. These extremely hard-wearing cables have been developed for the smallest bending radii and torsional movements and come with a 4-year guarantee.

E2 micro e-chains are used to ensure optimum cable protection despite permanent opening and closing of the doors. Thanks to the modular system, they can be customised to the application and are suitable for the smallest installation spaces. A special design of the cable carriers enables particularly low weight and low-noise movements. In combination with chainflex cables, the e-chain makes a particularly stress-resistant team.

dryspin lead screw systems are used to open and close the doors. Thanks to their lead screw nuts made of self-lubricating high-performance polymers, they eliminate the need for additional lubrication and thus reduce maintenance and cleaning costs. igus stepper motors are used to drive the lead screw systems. E2 micro e-chains, chainflex cables and dryspin lead screw systems are also used in the sliding step under the door because they can be used in dirt, road salt and rain without any problems. The dryspin high helix lead screws continue to function at -40° and under heavy dirt loads.

In addition to entrance doors for passengers in trams, regional and express trains, doors for the driver's cab, the engine room and emergency doors are also equipped with igus components. Even if these are not so highly frequented, they must function safely at all times. Among other things, plain bearings and thrust washers are used in driver's cab and engine room doors. Flawless function is particularly important for folding emergency doors. Here too, iglidur plain bearings are used to avoid additional lubricants or even insufficient lubrication.
