Bearing technology for walking aids

Learning to walk again is a huge challenge after an illness or other incident. It is much easier with outside help than on one's own. No special environmental conditions are required. The gait trainer is used only in clean indoor areas and at normal temperatures. But it does feature a compact design with hard-to-reach components and closed dimensional chains for which manufacturing tolerances and geometries are decisive for component performance.

So Prodromus, a Polish company, used igus components in developing a gait recovery device. It was designed for those with cerebral palsy, meningo-spinal hernia, or spina bifida or who are recovering from trauma with or without regaining full motor function. The gait trainer can also be used to change the depth of the patient's body position. The igus solutions ensure smooth movement in all the carrier's linear and rotating elements. The result is a miniaturised solution that operates quietly and requires no maintenance in a medical environment.
