chainflex® bus cables available immediately in all qualities with 300 V UL certification

The bus cables CF888, CFBUS.PVC, CF898 and CFBUS.PUR are now also approved for 300V UL; the CFBUS even for 600 V.

Thanks to the new cables with 300V UL approval the user is now able to lay bus cables on a platform directly next to cables with a higher voltage level (e.g. motor cables), which offers tangible savings potential.

UL means "Underwriters Laboratories" and is an independent organisation in the USA. This organisation tests various products for their safety.  With regard to cables, UL stipulates that all cables with different voltage classes in one cable guide must always be mechanically separated from one another. With the new 300 V bus cables from chainflex, this significant additional effort can now be dispensed with.

Bus cables with 300 V UL approval instead of 30 V

Or: Why are there different voltages at UL?

The safety requirements for fire protection in the country of origin of UL, the USA, are strict. Only appropriately tested products are awarded the UL certification mark. In appropriate tests, for example, specifications for fire protection requirements or wall thicknesses are verified. Only those who meet these versatile requirements will receive the UL Style for their product.

For energy supply systems, UL stipulates that all cables with different voltage classes and lying side by side, e.g. in a cable rack or energy chain, must always be mechanically separated from each other. This can be achieved by using appropriate sheet metal. Of course, meeting these standards involves a lot of effort and above all costs.  Using the example of the cable rack, one can say: "If all cables have the same voltage level, the cables can be laid side by side without this mechanical separation." This makes processing easier and saves enormous costs.

So the different voltage classifications of UL are decisive here, because now a cable with the higher style can be laid directly next to the other cables (e.g. motor cable).

UL verified: 36 month chainflex guarantee and service life calculation based on 2 million test cycles per year

For many years, the technical requirements for energy chain systems have been increasing more and more. Travels have become longer, movements quicker and bend radii smaller.  Core ruptures, jacket abrasion and corkscrew are the result. igus has risen to the challenge and developed cables that can withstand high mechanical stress chainflex cables.

As a consistent continuation of this technological claim, igus is, in 2020, the first German company to have its brand promise for chainflex cables validated by an external body. In a complex certification process, the US institute "Underwriters Laboratories" confirmed the accuracy of the statement "igus® 36-month chainflex cable guarantee and service life calculator based on 2 billion test cycles per year". This makes igus the first in Europe to have the veracity of its advertising statement confirmed by an internationally recognised testing institution.
