Permitted p x v values

For iglide® F bearings with 0.0394 inch (1 mm) wall thickness in dry operation against a steel shaft, at 68° F, installed in a steel housing.

When bearings need to be electrically conductive, especially in applications that should keep out static, the iglide® F is the right choice. Moreover, the iglide® F bearings are extremely pressure resistant.

Figure 11.2: Deformation under load and temperatures

Surface pressure

At room temperature, they could be statically loaded up to 14503 psi.

Figure 11.2 shows the elastic deformation of iglide® F with radial loads. Under the maximum recommended surface pressure of 15228 psi, the deformation amounts to less than 3.5%.

A plastic deformation can be negligible up to this pressure load. It is however also dependent on the period of exposure.

Constant 2.6248 1.9686 9.843
Short-term 4.9215 3.6091 16.405

Permitted surface speeds

The maximum permitted surface speeds are based on the operation period and the type of motion. A bearing is the most stressed in long-term rotating motions. Here the maximum speed for the iglide® F bearing is 2.6248 ft/s.

The maximum values specified in Table 11.2 are attained only at minimum pressure loads. In practice these limit values are not often attained due to interactions.

Figure 11.3: Maximum recommended surface pressure dependent on the temperature

Temperatures

The ambient temperatures strongly influence the features of bearings. The short-term permitted maximum temperature is 356° F. Long-term operating temperatures should not exceed 284° F.

With increasing temperatures, the compressive strength of iglide® F bearings decreases. Fig. 11.3 clarifies this connection. The wear too rises.

Friction and wear

The coefficients of friction in the dry operation are not so favorable in iglide® F bearings like in many other iglide® materials. However iglide® bearings can be lubricated without any problems, and iglide® F bearings attain excellent results compared among the lubricated iglide® bearings.

Friction and wear also depend to a high degree on the reverse partner. Figure 11.6 clearly shows how extremely smooth shafts raise the coefficient of friction of the bearing. The best suited is a smoothed surface with an average surface finish of Ra = 0.5 µm.

Shaft materials

Figures 11.7 to 11.9 display a summary of the results of tests with different shaft materials conducted with bearings made of iglide® F.

In the lowest load range, the hard-chromed shafts prove to be the most suitable counter partner in rotating applications with iglide® F bearings.

It behaves otherwise in pivoting applications (see Fig. 11.9) At 290 psi loads, the V2A shaft and the hard-chromed shaft are more favorable than the Cf53 shaft, having much higher coefficients of wear altogether than in rotations.

Please contact us in case the shaft material scheduled by you is not included in these diagrams.

Installation tolerances

iglide® F bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9).

After the installation in a housing bore with the tolerance H7, the inner diameter of the bearing automatically adjusts to the D11 tolerance.

Electrical properties

Specific forward resistance < 103 Ωcm
Surface resistance < 102 Ω

Chemical resistance

iglide® F bearings have a good resistance against chemicals. The particularly high resistance to lubricants is to be highlighted, even at high temperatures (around 248° F). Hence the iglide® F bearings are particularly suitable for applications that call for lubrication necessitated by other parts.

The iglide® F is not affected by most weak organic and inorganic acids.

The humidity absorption of iglide® F bearings amounts to about 1.8% in standard climatic conditions. The saturation limit in water is 8.4%. This should be considered according to application conditions.

Radioactive rays

iglide® F bearings are radiation resistant up to a radioactive intensity of 3 x 10² Gy.

UV-resistant

iglide® F bearings are permanently resistant against UV rays.

Vacuum

In application in vacuum, the potentially existent moisture content is degassed. For this reason only the dry iglidur® F bearings are suitable for vacuum.

Electrical properties

In contrast to most other iglide® materials, the iglide® F bearings are electrically conductive.
