Water-resistant parts for sportboats, sailboats and yachts in the marine industry
iglide® plastic bushings and drylin® linear plain bearings are perfectly suited for applications in the marine industry. Their built-in solid lubricants eliminate external grease, making them corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free, and available in low-moisture-absorption materials.
igus® tools help identify the best solution for each project. Unlike linear ball bearings that require hardened 420/440 stainless shafts, igus plain bearings run reliably on 304 or 316 stainless steel, which is better-suited for wet, saltwater environments. dryspin® lead screws and polymer nuts also excel in marine use, and together with linear slides can be supplied as complete bolt-on actuator systems with IP-65/68 NEMA stepper motors and 300-series stainless lead screws.
Designing moving mechanical systems for underwater operation is an especially challenging prospect due to the impact water has on metal components and the lubricants they rely on. However, dry-running plastic components from igus are ideal for underwater use. These components don’t require lubricating greases or oils, allowing for consistent performance underwater without the need for relubrication or risk of failure due to lubricant being washed away.
The award-winning Seascape 24 sailing boat is a performance-orientated, fast small cruiser that can also be used for leisurely cruising. The steering system is a twin rudder design that allows complete control even at high speeds. To ensure that the twin rudder steering system functions reliably, the designers use igubal® KARM-plastic-rod end in the connections.
Polymer bearings for the boat industry
These cranes are used to hoist boats out of the water in Fort Meyers, Florida. In both, iglide P is used directly in the cable winch drive shaft, which performs a lifting and lowering movement to lift the boats completely out of the water.
Unique yacht concept
To save moorings in ports, the width of these water catamarans can be reduced to 4.85 meters. Any torsional loads are compensated for with a combination of E04 e-chains and drylin linear guides.
An innovative sliding system
Hybrid drylin roller and plain bearings mounted on double drylin guides made of hard anodised aluminium allow this motor boat to change its steering gear position quickly and easily. The bearings are easy to install and also maintenance-free.
