Describe your system/machine/project. What is the function of your application? Where is your application used?
Our application is a device for punching holes in rolling shutter sidebars. The machine consists of four punching tools, three movable and one fixed. The punching machine is used to automatically move these punches to the desired positions with a control system and stepper motors. Three carriages on one axis move the punching tools to the desired positions in a fast, space-saving, precise and repeatable manner.
What are the usage/environmental conditions at the end user's location? What requirements had to be met to adapt to those conditions?
The small installation space requires a compact solution. The application is used in a device for punching holes in rolling shutter sidebars, so the system had to be positioned precisely.
Which polymer bearing technology solutions do you use?
A 1.5-metre drylin® W WS-10-120 double rail and three drylin® W WW-10-120-10 complete carriages. There are also three dryspin® high helix lead screws measuring 10x25 with matching lead screw nuts, a special design. Propeller mounts with mountable motor flanges for stepper and DC motors (MF-2040-NEMA23-S) and drylin® E elastomer couplings were also installed. The application axis completely automates the punching process. The use of a single axis also reduces costs and the space required.
At which points? How did the products solve your problems?
The applied axis, coupled with the punch holders, completely automates the punching process. After the default values are entered, all punching tools move much faster and more precisely to the specified positions than they would with manual work - errors are eliminated completely. Using a single axis significantly reduces costs and makes installation easy with a very small system footprint.
How did the cooperation with igus work?
I have been using igus products for several years and know the these systems' capabilities. When I presented my idea to my igus consultant, it turned out that, although the system I wanted was available, it was new and therefore not listed in the online catalogue. I received drawings and all information about the product. I told him my requirements, and the result was a product that was tailored to the needs of my application.
