Precise, simple and efficient

• What was needed: Precise lead screw driven linear actuators, as well as belt-driven actuators with electric motors
• Requirements: Products that are temperature-resistant are required for the high loads in outdoor use. In addition, all components must be water and dirt-resistant, wear-resistant, resilient, rust-free and fail-safe.

• Success for the customer: drylin® SHT Linear modules and ZLW toothed belt axes offer high load capacity and wear resistance. The robust design enables autonomous driving through various environments, in heat or cold, through water, dirt or even sandstorms. The systems are corrosion-free and maintenance-free.

The autonomous measuring robot should offer a high degree of accuracy and therefore reliability for the end customer. This requires products that can guarantee high precision with a maximum deviation of 6 mm. However, the biggest challenges are probably the external influences that affect the entire robotic measuring system. As Civ Robotics' customers are mainly construction companies, the robot must be able to withstand all weather conditions, such as

• Sandy ground in desert regions
• Strong winds and sandstorms
• Severe heat or cold (-20 to +50 °C)
• Wet, muddy ground

The autonomous measuring system must therefore be very insensitive to dirt and temperature and thus ensure that the measurements are not impaired.

igus® was able to help the customer solve all the challenges of this project with the help of the lubrication-free linear modules. A linear module with a spindle drive and a toothed belt drive were used. A trapezoidal thread with high positioning accuracy was used to drive the spindle module in the measuring system. The ZLW-0630 toothed belt axes are controlled by a gantry drive and water-protected drylin® E electric motor.

The components enable completely lubricant-free adjustment with high precision and robustness and therefore fulfil the requirements for durability and wear resistance. At the same time, the system is insensitive to water and dirt thanks to the absence of external lubricants. The products are also unaffected by other weather conditions such as extreme heat.
