A gantry palletizer is a large XYZ gantry robot built for loading and unloading pallets. A robotic arm rotates around a fixed base, but a palletizing gantry positions loads with three linear actuators that travel in straight lines. This gives it a much larger work area and consistent positioning accuracy across the whole frame.
Because it's mounted overhead, a gantry palletizer leaves the floor below open for conveyors, pallet jacks, and operators. You can grow the work area by extending the actuators, and payload capacity doesn't drop off at the edges of the workspace the way it can with an articulated arm. Stacking patterns translate directly into X, Y, and Z positions, which keeps programming simple. With dry-running drylin® components, igus® gantry palletizers also need minimal maintenance, which makes them a strong fit for food and beverage packaging lines.

The igus XYZ gantry palletizer handles payloads up to 10 kg (22 lb). It's built to load and unload cartons, cases, and packaged goods onto pallets, not to lift full pallets. The actual limit depends on where the load sits in the work area and how fast it moves, so igus can confirm capacity for your application.
The standard work area is 2,000 x 2,000 x 1,000 mm, which leaves room around a standard pallet for infeed positions. The vertical stroke sets the maximum stack height. igus can also build custom gantries to fit your application and installation space.
It reaches speeds up to 1 m/s with ±0.5 mm positioning accuracy. With a 500 g payload, it completes 5–20 picks per minute. Heavier products moved over longer distances will run at lower rates, so estimate throughput based on your specific stacking pattern.
With igus® Robot Control software, which is free. It includes a 3D digital twin of the gantry, so you can build and check motion sequences before running them on the real system, or before you buy. The software will run on a Windows 10 PC with a free USB 2.0 port, an Ethernet port, and 500 MB of storage.
Yes, through either of two control options. The ready-to-use igus Robot Control system comes in a switch cabinet or DIN rail version. It offers digital I/Os, Modbus TCP/IP and CRI interfaces, preconfigured ROS packages, a LabVIEW interface, and camera interfaces. To run the gantry from your own master controller, such as Siemens or Beckhoff, use the dryve D1 motor controller. It connects over CANopen or Modbus TCP, has digital I/Os and analog inputs, and sets up from a PC, tablet, or smartphone with no software to install.
Vacuum grippers suit sealed cartons and cases with flat top surfaces. Mechanical grippers suit bags and items that won't seal against a suction cup.
The drylin® toothed belt actuators run on self-lubricating plastic liners over corrosion-resistant aluminum, so there's no greasing or oiling schedule. However, periodic checks for belt tension are recommended to catch any loss of tension before it impacts performance. The TRUMMETER belt tension meter makes this process quick and easy.
The YZ palletizing gantry has the same 10 kg payload but moves in two dimensions over a 2,000 x 1,000 mm work area, which suits simpler tasks along a single line. The XYZ version adds a third actuator, so it can build layer patterns across the full pallet footprint and serve several pick and place positions.
