P4.1 rol e-chain®
Merging bearing technology & smart sensors for longer service life
The line of P4 energy chains has been optimized for greater reliability. With the new P4.1 roller chain, there is a bearing point for pivoting in every chain link connection. These points are integrated with maintenance-free iglide® plain bearings, which minimize friction and more than double the expected service life. Container cranes in ports, for example, can achieve a service life of more than 15 years or 20,000+ operating hours.

The Port of Rotterdam, one of the largest ports in Western Europe, found a solution to address these challenges by integrating an Industry 4.0 solution featuring roller e-chains® and smart plastics from igus®.
Service life comparison of igus® rol e-chains® generations
In this comparison based on an indoor crane equipped with igus® products, the crane has been in operation for more than 9 years and has accumulated over 40,000 operating hours. The previous roller chains were replaced according to a scheduled maintenance program.
