What was needed: E4.1 series energy chain
Requirements: A stable and failure-free solution was required for the cable routing of cantilevers and drill floor skids on a jack-up rig. With little installation space, it also needed to be as space-saving as possible.

Success for the customer: With E4.1 e-chain, a fail-safe and maintenance-free cable routing system was created. Designed as a reinforced center belt chain, the e-chain® enables the safe guidance of heavy cable packages. And the small support distance ensures safe guidance of cables of all diameters.

Problem

Jack-up rigs are used as modular drilling rigs (MDR) to transport additional drilling equipment to fixed drilling platforms. Once at the drilling site, the legs of the drillship extend to the seabed and provide a secure foothold to lift the drilling floor to the level of the drilling platform. A cantilever is positioned above the drilling site and the drilling can begin.

For this jack-up rig, a suitable cable routing to the cantilever and the drilling floor was sought during the planning phase, which would be able to bear the high additional loads of the cable permanently and without failure. Another prerequisite for the installation was a space-saving system. The tight installation space required a compact but safe bundling of all cables.

Solution

High additional loads, robust cable routing and compact installation. With these requirements in mind, the manufacturer went on a search - and found what it was looking for in our E4.1 series e-chains. They are used in the Ausführungen 800 and E4.112. The particularly robust cable guides from the Heavy Duty range were chosen due to the large dimensions and heavy cable packages. In order to move safely with the loads, they were designed as a center belt chain, i.e. as a reinforced system. The small support distance of both systems also enables the safe guidance of cables of all diameters, which is ultimately reflected in a fail-safe and maintenance-free system.
