Challenge

The turbine’s lifting and lowering motions require robust cable protection over a 66-foot vertical travel path, transitioning to horizontal travel in a steel trough. Conventional metal chains couldn’t withstand the harsh marine environment.

An igus® Series 4040 energy chain cable carrier from the E4/4 range and chainflex® motor and signal cables provided a maintenance-free, durable solution. The plastic chain resists corrosion and handles extreme mechanical demands, ensuring smooth operation above and below water.
