So that cables for moving applications can be used on ships and in offshore applications without expensive special approvals, igus and DNV-GL Klassifizierungsgesellschaft have again upgraded and renewed their jointly developed test standard for dynamically moving applications on ships in 2020.
Oil drilling platforms, gas production facilities, wind farms, port facilities or ship cranes: the sea and the waves place very special demands on secure energy and data transmission. For this reason, maritime users now have more than 370 tested and DNV-GL-certified control, servo, motor and robot cables as well as bus, data, encoder and fibre optic cables available for the reliable operation of maritime applications. As for all chainflex cables that are specially designed for movement in energy chains, igus also gives a guarantee of 36 months for cables used here.
The oceans have long been part of the global economy, through wind farms as well as through the worldwide movement of goods. Thereby companies working for and in the maritime environment have to face special challenges: in addition to the Machinery Directive or the Product Safety Act, which also apply ashore, they are often bound by the contents of the Maritime Tasks Act or the Ship Safety Act.
In order to enable plant constructors and suppliers to smoothly implement the diverse legal requirements, to contribute to efficient project planning and ultimately to ensure trouble-free operation, igus has 387 chainflex® cables certified by DNV-GL for use in maritime environments available from stock. These are designed for the highly dynamic use in energy chains for safe operation at sea. Besides having seawater resistance, the chainflex cables also operate reliably under the influence of oil. The cables are resistant according to MUD NEK606, which enables maintenance-free pumping on drilling rigs and also stands for operator safety.
In addition to the elaborate test procedures of the DNV-GL classification society, the cables have also been tested in the igus test laboratory under real conditions.
