Offshore terminals and vessels

igus® energy supply systems for offshore terminals and vessels

Offshore supply vessels usually moor at multi-functional quays where other vessels berth as well. At inner city ports for example cruise ships or at offshore bases other offshore ships such as pipe laying vessels.
At offshore bases, the ship's change frequently and different equipment is loaded. The weather conditions play a decisive role. To protect the crew on board against wind and weather, the bow of the vessels is often turned into the wind.

As a result of the changing mooring positions the deployment length of the cable management system has to be up to 98 ft and more. The vessels use then their crane to handle the cables. This is time-consuming but increases flexibility.

At inner city ports the mooring position can be determined exactly. Especially where terminals are accessible to the public, optical and safety-related aspects play an important role. In this case it is an advantage when the cable management system has a small footprint and that cables and connectors do not lie on the quay where they are accessible.

If the connectors are deployed at a safe height directly onto the ship, work is eased for the crew and the deployment length can be reduced.
