Since the 1980s, the technical requirements of machines and plant manufacturers have been steadily increasing. Travels have become longer, movements quicker and bend radii smaller, which has caused unexpected consequences, such as core and jacket damage, jacket abrasion and corkscrews. igus® chose to face these challenges by working with the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany to develop cables that could withstand a high degree of mechanical stress.
After extensive tests in the igus test lab, it became clear that the cables with cores wound in bundles, short pitch lengths, high tensile strength center elements and gusset-filling extruded outer jackets exceeded expectations.
Currently, igus offers over 1,350 cables across range of various application areas. Since 2013, igus has guaranteed a service life of 36 months or up to 10 million double strokes, depending on which occurs first. To learn more about our 36 month guarantee, click below. A system that has to operate around the clock under high-performance pressure requires the highest standards - also from the suppliers of the individual components of the machine. An example of this would be the "Speedmounter" system from IPTE GmbH. By using our energy chains and chainflex data cables, the company can reduce maintenance intervals and save considerable costs. In addition, our cables impress with their special design with gusset-filling extruded inner jacket and retain their transmission properties after many millions of double strokes.
The company WALDRICH COBURG GmbH deals with the complete machining of large components such as diesel engines, generators and ship propellers. The consequences are ever-increasing machining centres and increasing demands on machine technology. For the company, we have developed a special complete solution with a measuring system cable that reliably transmits the signals over a very long distance and ensures high machine availability.
The Bochum University team has been working on the development of a solar vehicle for 18 years. It should be designed in such a way that it can easily handle the toughest conditions. Against this background, all components have to cope with the tough demands and at the same time have a low weight. Our servo cables have a special cable design that ensures the high current carrying capacity and withstands the mechanical loads due to motion and vibration, so that there are no interruptions to the power supply. As they are very tough, they are ideally suited to thermal stress.
We conduct hundreds of tests, on thousands of cable types, for millions of cycles every year. Visit the test lab.
